Please Read Me
This will help you install Docent and start working with it.
Hi Testers,
Thanks for taking time to test Docent. I really appreciate it.
Let's get started.
- Since you don't have access to your personal email on this computer you'll need to use your *personal/work* computer check for an email from me ("docentims.com" or "docentdashboard.org"). Please check spam.
- Please follow the instructions in the email to sign into Dashboard and the project site. At the end, the email will provide a link to download a file.
- Please download, but do not install on your computer. (This is a one time step - Docent will auto update after installed) Transfer the file to this test computer and install there.
- Use the "Dashboard" link installed on te desktop to take you to the Docent Dashboard.
* Login. Your user name/password is on the label on this computer. - You have been assigned to one project and you will see one "bubble" on you Dashboard with the project name.
* In the main section of the Dashboard (with the boxes) select the name of the project and this will take you to that project
* sign in with same username and password. (Note: all projects and Dashboard will use the same username. however, you may/should use different passwords for sites. For testing it is easier to have the same for all sites. - Return to Dashboard, To to the b
Welcome, Testers
Thanks for taking the time to test Docent — I really appreciate it.
Background Story
For testing, please step into this scenario:
- Meridian Inc. is a civil engineering consulting firm with about 550 people.
- You work for a company that has partnered with Meridian on previous projects, and you know you've been included in this new one. The registration email won't be a surprise.
- Because of those previous projects, Meridian already has your business and professional information (role, company name and address, phone, etc.). You won't be surprised when your user profile comes pre-populated — in fact, you'll find it helpful.
- You've been told to expect an email in the next few days from
docentdashboard.org. You'll watch both your inbox and spam folder. - When the email arrives, you understand that registration is required, so you complete the process within a day.
Your Onboarding Process
This registration is slightly different from normal and requires one extra step.
I'm using your personal email address in the Dashboard, so the registration email will go there — not to your work email (which is how it would normally work). Since you won't have access to your personal email on the Docent test computer, you'll need to use your personal computer for the email portion of setup.
Steps
- On your personal computer, check your personal email (including spam) for a message from
docentims.comordocentdashboard.org. - Follow the instructions in that email to sign in to Dashboard.
- Watch for a second email from your project site and sign in there as well.
- Download the Docent Word add-in using the link at the end of that email. Do not install it on your personal computer — just save the file.
- Transfer the installer to your Docent test computer (USB stick, OneDrive, email to yourself, etc.).
- On the test computer, run the installer and follow the prompts.
- Open Word and let's get to work.
This is a one-time setup — Docent will auto-update from here on.eta tester (right-hand side of Dashboard) and begin testing.
* As you test, it would be useful if I was either with you or we connected on Zoom so I can see and hear first hand how you progress. - Finally, I created a Gmail that will be available to all of us. it is the shortcut on the desktop * docentimstester@gmail.com / *75$cv@y87
Thanks again for your help.
